WHY I AM RUNNING
We are very lucky to live in a special part of the world where community still means something and neighbors still help each other. Working together and building on our strengths, we will solve the challenges facing the 3rd Congressional District.
I have heard our neighbors from Gallup to Raton, from Tierra Amarilla to Portales - and everywhere in between - describe their hopes and dreams. Many of you have asked me to run and give these dreams a strong voice in Congress. With humble acceptance of your strong support, I agree to run to represent you in Congress.
I have heard your strong desire to end bitter partisanship in Washington. I agree with you and am running as an Independent so that when elected, I will answer only to you, free to work with and for everyone.
I stand for many things that you have told me are also important to you including:
- Access to health care professionals, wellness programs, clinics and hospitals that will give you quality care. Access to care is very different from just the mandate to have an insurance card for sickness care.
- A living wage. Not the minimum wage that keeps even fulltime workers in poverty.
- Our country becoming the world leader in the use of peaceful means to address conflicts and protect us. Now is the time to end the war and claim our long promised Peace Dividend to build the infrastructure, economy, schools, health facilities, parks, and libraries needed by the communities of the 3rd Congressional District.
- My experience as a parciante and Acequia Commissioner who understands land issues and the importance of water to the Third Congressional District.
Together we will collect the required signatures and guarantee our campaign a place on the ballot on Election Day November 4th.
I promise that I will keep listening to you, sharing ideas and working for your policy solutions. Together, we will be ready to go to work on the first day on the job in the House of Representatives in January 2009.
